Just beyond the waters from Shanti Sands lies Lamu Town, a UNESCO World heritage site and the oldest continuously inhabited Swahili settlement in Kenya. Wandering its narrow streets lined with coral stone houses, shaded courtyards and beautifully carved doors feels like stepping into another era.
Just a short boat ride away lie the Takwa ruins on Manda island that whisper stories of the past. Hidden among palms and sand dunes these ancient remains of a 15th century Swahili settlement offer a glimpse into the island’s history- a place of peace, and beauty untouched by time

Getting To Manda Island
Reaching Shanti Sands is part of the adventure. Daily flights connect Malinda, Mombasa and Nairobi to Lamu airport which is located right on Manda island. The flight from Nairobi takes approximately 1.5 hours highlighting breathtaking views of the Kenyan coast as you descend over white sandbars and turquoise waters.
Upon arrival we offer a short boat ride across the lagoon to bring you directly to the shores of Shanti Sands where your island escape truly begins
